MP Vesna Marjanovic was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on Culture, Diversity and Heritage of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe which deals with the cultural policies of the Council of Europe member states and intercultural dialogue in Europe.

At the same time, at the January session, Vesna Marjanovic was elected rapporteur on the report on the states’ duty to ensure wide access to cultural heritage and civic participation in cultural activities. The report is meant to highlight the strong connection between culture and democracy in the creation of a tolerant, democratic society.

Vesna Marjanovic, Chairperson of the Culture and Information Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, said that this was a recognition of the Serbian delegations’ activities in the sphere of culture and its work on the report on Europe’s endangered cultural heritage.

“The Council of Europe pays special attention to the issues of culture and education because this renowned international organisation understands that they are the pre-requisites for successful democratic development and the building of civil society which understands and protects human rights. The right to access education and culture is part of the civil rights corpus which can not to be disregarded.”
