MP Svetlana Milijic Takes Part in Conference: Older People – Resource for Development of Society

Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia MA Svetlana Milijic spoke yesterday at the conference “Older People: a Resource for the Development of Society” held in the Palace of Serbia.

She said that the elderly are not a burden to society, but its component part, “us in the future”, stressing that it is everybody’s duty to offer them support and provide them with a dignified and active life.

Quoting Betty Friedan, Milijic reminded the attending that “Aging is not lost youth, but a new stage of opportunity and strength”, adding that an aging brings with it new opportunities for development of the individual and the community.

“Today, we see Serbia, at the initiative of President Aleksandar Vucic, invest heavily into supporting those oldest among us. That is why it is our duty to continue to support them because a society that appreciates the experience of the elderly becomes a society of knowledge, work and honesty”, Milijic said.
