The topic of the meeting was the problem teachers sometimes encounter in the election for school principal. Vesna Ilic, former principal of “Nadezda Petrovic” Elementary School from Velika Plana, and Dusan Jovanov, former principal of “Mileta Protic” Elementary School from Tovariste, spoke about their cases of, according to them, unfoundedly contested election to managing positions. Ilic’s election was contested twice in a row even though, as she claims, she had the majority support of the school board, and the acting principal was appointed school principal.

Deputy Speaker Lutovac said that one possible solution could be to submit an initiative to amend and modify the Law on Foundations of the Education System to the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society and the National Assembly, to rescind the competent minister’s discretional right to appoint school principals and return the decision-making power to the managing school board made up of three representatives of the relevant institution’s employees, three parents and three representatives proposed by the local self-government unit.
