Linta said it was an honour to be the Society’s guest at the 11th Janj multi-athlon, unique sporting and ethno-tourist event in Janj in the Republic of Srpska in July of last year, praising the denizens’ hospitality. The Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region thanked the members of the Heritage Society’s Executive Board for the visit, hoping that they will continue to cooperate in the future.
The members of the Executive Board of the Heritage Society of Janj people from Novi Sad spoke to Linta about the history of the Society, founded in February 2009 in response to the wish of the Janj people from Vojvodina to have a branch in Serbia. The members of the Society said that Janj is a special historical, geographic and cultural community in the Republic of Srpska, home to a great many Serbs, that had, thanks to its isolation, managed to preserve its customs, culture, tradition and national costume. They spoke of the natural wealth of Janj - its islets, Mt. Vitorog, Vagan Cave, Glogovac monastery, the traditional venue of the Janj assembly, river Pliva and the gorge of river Janj which is a protected nature reserve of the Republic of Srpska.

“We are very grateful that you dedicated your attention to our people living in the area. Your visit was very important for the people of Janj whose numbers have been dwindling in the last few years, so population of the area is something that should be discussed. The key is to return to Janj, roots, tradition and culture”, said the members of the Executive Board.

They spoke about the Society’s past and coming activities and planned initiatives such as the idea to construct a self-contained ethno village in the area and a memorial to the Serbian civilian victims of the notorious NDH in World War Two. The Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Miodrag Linta said that he will always strive to help the Society to the best of his ability.

The president of the Heritage Society of Janj people from Novi Sad Zoran Crepulja thanked Linta for the donation of the Alliance of Serbs from the region to the Society and the honour to visit the National Assembly House.

The meeting was attended by the president of the Heritage Society of Janj people from Novi Sad Zoran Crepulja, Society’s secretary Cvijan Savkovic and Executive Board members Dusan Blazic, Milovan Klisaric, Nedeljko Kerlec, Jovo Cato, Dragan Malinovic and Goran Savkovic.
