Hellenic Parliament President Visits Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the President of the Hellenic Parliament Nikolaos Voutsis, in official visit to Serbia, 19 - 20 December.


Gojkovic said that Serbia greatly values its relationship with Greece, grounded in friendship and historically proven closeness between the two nations.

The National Assembly Speaker said that there is room to improve parliamentary cooperation through the Memorandum of Cooperation the two parliaments signed in 2012, especially in the fields of Euro-integration, foreign affairs and culture.

Gojkovic thanked Greece for its support on issues of great importance for Serbia – Euro-integration and the belief that Serbia belongs in the European Union, and Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Voutsis stressed that the friendly, brotherly relations between the two countries do not stem only from tradition and centuries of friendship. The President of the Hellenic Parliament said that Serbia, currently on the path to Europe, deserves to be included in the European family and urged to boost regional cooperation and strengthen the region’s role in the European context.

Gojkovic and Voutsis agreed that there is ample poential to advance cooperation especially in the spheres of economy, trade and tourism, also touching on the issue of migration and other challenges the region and Europe are faced with.

The President of the Hellenic Parliament will address the National Assembly tomorrow, at the Special Sitting scheduled by Speaker Maja Gojkovic.
