Gojkovic Meets with Chair of EP Delegation to EU-Serbia SAPC Tanja Fajon

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Chair of the EP delegation to the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) Tanja Fajon on the eve of the 11th meeting of the Parliamentary Committee scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Gojkovic and Fajon discussed Serbia’s Euro-integration and current issues concerning the National Assembly’s work. The Serbian Assembly Speaker said that the coming meeting of the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee is an excellent opportunity to examine the state-of-play of Serbia’s EU accession process, hoping that the improvements in the operation of the National Assembly which applied the suggestions from the European Commission’s Progress Report would be recognized. Gojkovic added that the first inter-party dialogue in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, with the mediation of the European Parliament, on improving the conditions for the Parliamentary Elections would be followed by a new round of talks in November.

Fajon said that, as an MP and Chair of the EP delegation to the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee, she considers it vital to continue with the active work on EU enlargement to the Western Balkans. Fajon said that she is optimistic that enlargement will remain high on the EU agenda, stressing that Serbia is important for the stability of the region and she expects the opening of negotiation chapters would continue.
