Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, opined that the relations between the two countries are good, but there is always room to further deepen and improve parliamentary cooperation, bilateral relations and economic exchange. The Committee Chairman stressed that Serbia’s chief foreign policy goal is EU accession, as well as regional cooperation.

The Chair of the Slovenian Parliament’s (Drzavni Zbor) Committee on Foreign Policy Jozef Horvat said that Slovenia fully supports Serbia’s European integration and that EU enlargement is the only way forward for the community. He stressed that trade and investment are in both countries’ interest and informed the Committee members that Slovenia’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia comprises a quarter of all the MPs, which only goes to show that the two countries enjoy excellent cooperation.

The officials also discussed the migrant crisis, and the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee opined that Serbia plays a crucial role as a transit country traversed by hundreds of migrants on a daily basis, adding that certain EU states closing their borders is not the right way to tackle this problem.
