At the sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, held on 27 November, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Denmark, Vida Ognjenovic elaborated the Copenhagen embassy’s activity programme. She pointed out that, considering that Serbia has not had an ambassador in Denmark for two years now, the new ambassador will have to work on renewing and strengthening the relations between the two countries, on both the political and economic level.

Vida Ognjenovic said that Denmark has a developed foreign policy activity and influence, in both the United Nations and peace operations, it is one of the biggest donors in the world and has an important role in the European Union supporting the position that it must expand to include Western Balkan countries.

Ambassador Ognjenovic said that Serbia’s economic cooperation with Denmark is insufficient, and that the potential for its improvement lies, above all, in the field of agriculture where Denmark has attained high achievements, then tourism, as well as environmental protection, especially the use of wind power and biopower. She also estimated that it is necessary to intensify Serbia’s parliamentary cooperation with Denmark, through committee cooperation and other parliamentary contacts.

At the proposal of all the deputy groups at the National Assembly, at the sitting, the Committee established the composition of deputy friendship groups with 41 countries and five regions.

The Committee members accepted the initiative for the Foreign Committee Chairman to participate in the Libyan General People’s Congress (Parliament) session in Tripoli, in December of this year, as well as the initiative of the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) to exchange parliamentary delegations. Several reports on realised visits and contacts between the National Assembly and foreign parliamentarians were accepted.

The sitting was chaired by Professor Dr Dragoljub Micunovic.
