Fifth Sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy

At the sitting held on 3 February 2021, the members of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy reviewed the Commission for Protection of Competition 2019 Annual Activity Report.


The Report was presented by the President of the Commission for Protection of Competition Nebojsa Peric who said that the Commission for Protection of Competition is a new body established by the 2005 Law on Protection of Competition as an independent and autonomous organisation exercising its authority in line with said Law, adding that the first Commission council was set up in April 2006. The current council was elected at a National Assembly session on 14 November 2019.

According to its President the Commission’s priorities are ascertaining any violations of competitiveness, assessment of concentration, sector analyses and public promotion of competition protection policies. In the reporting period the Commission enjoyed a very high level of cooperation with important international institutions through the active participation of its representatives at all significant gatherings dedicated to competition protection. He especially praised the increased exchange of experience at the regional level.

He briefed the Committee members on the financial results of the Commission which is funded exclusively from its own revenues, adding that in 2019 it had achieved a positive result – revenue of about 266 million RSD, about 160 million of which was paid into the Serbian budget, while the rest was kept as reserve funds.

Council member Cedomir Radojevic also spoke about the Report, focusing on the Commission’s normative activities, saying that the Government would soon receive three new ordinances which the Commission was obliged to draft and harmonise with the ministries by request of the European Commission made in the European progress report.

Finally, Committee Chairman Veroljub Arsic addressed the attending, drawing attention to the importance of the work of the Commission for Protection of Competition.

Following a short discussion the Committee members unanimously accepted the Commission for Protection of Competition 2019 Annual Activity Report.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Veroljub Arsic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Aleksandra Tomic, Dragomir Karic, Branimir Jovanovic, Tihomir Petkovic, Adrijana Pupovac, Vesna Stambolic, Janko Langura, Snezana Petrovic, Natasa Ljubisic, Zoran Tomic, Ivana Popovic, Ana Beloica, Snezana Paunovic, Ugljesa Markovic, Vojislav Vujic and Mina Kitanovic.
