This year sees the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia take part for the first time in European Heritage Days, an international event held in Belgrade from 11 to 19 September.

As part of the event, the Assembly has organised an exhibition of paintings and other artworks from the parliament’s rich collection, made up of 229 works by 142 artists. The public was given a chance to see eleven paintings and six other works, by artists such as Stojan Aralica, Petar Lubarda, Pedja Milosavljevic, Ljubica Cuca Sokic, Slavoljub Caja Radojcic, and Marko Celebonovic.

The artworks were selected by National Museum curator Ljubica Miljkovic, who also gave guided tours of the exhibition, which was open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on 12 and 13 September. The National Assembly was visited by four organised groups, who toured the building’s most important areas, were given a presentation on how the Assembly functions, sat in deputies’ seats, and voted. Their questions about how the Assembly worked were answered by the administrative staff.

The National Assembly, in co-operation with OSCE, had provided a brochure about the European Heritage Days exhibition, as well as one about the Parliament, for each visitor.

The visit to the National Assembly was covered well by the media, a fact borne out by many articles in the press on this event in the “House of all the people”.

Members of the public can visit the National Assembly building every last Saturday of a month as part of the Open Door Day programme.
