The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with Bundestag member Peter Bayer to discuss economic cooperation and Serbia’s European integration.
Dr Orlic noted that Germany is Serbia's most important economic partner, as well as one of the leading foreign investors. In the course of the meeting, the officials expressed determination to maintain and further improve the continuity of economic cooperation in the future. Mr. Bayer praised Serbia's economic successes achieved in previous years, expressing the expectation that German investors would continue to invest intensively in Serbia.
The officials noted the high-quality of the regular political dialogue between the two countries, expressing commitment to further interparliamentary relations. Mr. Bayer commended the cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Bundestag, expressing satisfaction with the fact that the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Federal Republic of Germany is the largest one in the National Assembly.
Speaking about Serbia's European path, Dr Orlic confirmed that EU membership remains our country’s strategic commitment and thanked for the support in the matter. "Serbia has made progress in practically all areas that fall under the rule of law. We have recently adopted a set of new judicial laws. We have shown a clear commitment to dialogue, although the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is heavily burdened by Albin Kurti's irrational behaviour and his brazen refusal to honour the previously signed commitments. First and foremost, we ask for the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities at long last. It is good that EU and US officials are now in agreement on this issue, which is a basic prerequisite for further dialogue," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. "The formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities and the security of the Serbian people in Kosovo remain issues of the greatest importance and are in the focus of our state policy led by the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vucic. It is a policy of peace and stability for everyone who lives here," said Dr Orlic. Mr. Bayer expressed his expectation that all the commitments would be honoured, including the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
The meeting was also attended by Jakov Devcic, Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, whom the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia thanked for the long-standing excellent cooperation and support in the implementation of reform processes in Serbia.
