Dr Milorad Mijatovic Takes Part in IPU Seminar on Parliamentary Cooperation in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals
Member of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Dr Milorad Mijatovic took part in the seminar on parliamentary cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Jerusalem, 20-21 November 2018.
The objective of the two-day seminar co-organized by the Israeli Knesset and the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is to exchange experiences and join the comprehensive debate on how to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
At the beginning of the seminar the parliamentarians of 20 European and East Asian countries were addressed by the Speaker of the Knesset Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, IPU President Gabriela Cuevas Barron and the President of the Cypriot Parliament Demetris Syllouris. They told the participants that 2030 is not that far away, time is short and the IPU member states need to join forces to fulfil the 2030 Agenda and work together to tackle the modern challenges of migration, water shortage and focus on developing the economy and technology to reduce poverty and unemployment.
In the seminar’s four sessions the parliamentarians were briefed on the realization of the 2030 Agenda through the promotion of science, technology and innovation and the parliaments’ progress on achieving the SDGs so far.
On the margins of the seminar Dr Milorad Mijatovic met with IPU President Gabriela Cuevas Barron, Speaker of the Knesset Yuli-Yoel Edelstein and the President of the Cypriot Parliament Demetris Syllouris.
