Deputy Speaker Ragus Meets with OSCE PA Vice President and Special Representative on South East Europe

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today with OSCE PA Vice President and Special Representative on South East Europe Kyriakos Hadjiyianni.

Ragus and Hadjiyianni discussed the regional relations in the Western Balkans, the challenging situation in Kosovo-Metohija, Serbia’s European integration process, as well as the interparliamentary forum of countries of South East Europe to be held in Montenegro at the initiative of OSCE PA.

Deputy Speaker Ragus opined that the visit of the OSCE PA Vice President and Special Representative on South East Europe comes at the best possible time, in light of the current developments in Kosovo-Metohija. She informed the guest in detail on the situation on the ground, drawing attention to the violation of all the rights of Serbs in the southern province by the Pristina authorities. She stressed that Serbia expects support from its Western partners so as to avoid the escalation and halt the ethnic cleansing of Serbs in the heart of Europe in the 21st century. Ragus added that Belgrade remains committed to the continuation of dialogue with Pristina, preservation of peace and stability and initiatives of regional interest such as the Open Balkans initiative.

The officials agreed that the situation in Kosovo-Metohija has to be resolved through dialogue and the challenging regional situation through topics of common interest which would lead to the overall prosperity of the people in the Western Balkans. They also opined that the parliamentary initiatives of the countries of South East Europe, broached in integrational parliamentary institutions could contribute to the strengthening of stability and topics of interest for common development and progress.
