The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Serbia Thomas Schieb.
Ambassador Schieb congratulated National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic, on taking office and wished him success in his new position. He delivered a letter from the President of the Bundestag Wolfgang Schauble, in which he, with congratulations on behalf of the Bundestag and on his own behalf, expressed satisfaction at the opportunity to continue cooperation with Ivica Dacic and readiness to intensify relations between the two countries' parliaments.
At the guest’s request, National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic presented the National Assembly’s priorities and current activities. He informed the Ambassador about the changes that the National Assembly has already started to implement with a view to improving its operation, in line with the recommendations from the European Commission's 2020 Progress Report on Serbia.
The National Assembly Speaker went on to say that the National Assembly would soon organise a session, in agreement with the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, dedicated to the European Commission's 2020 Progress Report on Serbia.
Stressing that Germany is one of Serbia’s most important foreign policy partners, the National Assembly Speaker said that we want to strengthen our bilateral relations across the board. The officials agreed that an exchange of visits of the Heads of Parliament would significantly contribute to the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation, and with it the overall bilateral relations between Serbia and Germany.
The National Assembly Speaker informed his guest about the plans for the continuation of the inter-party dialogue.
Ambassador Schieb welcomed the readiness to continue the dialogue underlining the importance Germany attaches to this issue. He praised the initiative to consider the European Commission's Progress Report on Serbia in the National Assembly.
