Brnabic after Meeting with Koopman: Goal is to Open Cluster 3 by End of July

Serbian National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic said today in Brussels, after the meeting with the EU Director-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Gert Jan Koopman, that the goal is to open Cluster 3 of the EU membership negotiations by the end of July.

Brnabic stated that Koopman will come to Belgrade again on 12 June and that they will meet then as well.

"This is a good dynamic of mutual visits and talks, because it is the best way to monitor the progress of our reform activities, which should finally lead to the opening of Cluster 3. We hope and it is our wish and ambition to do so by the end of July, if not then, then September or October. But what we are aiming for, our target date is the end of July and we are working on it," said Brnabic.

The Parliament Speaker expressed her gratitude to Koopman because, as she said, he is really trying hard and is dedicated to the EU accession process and personally monitors every reform and every task that has been set before Serbia to carry out and complete.

"There is a lot of understanding for all the things that are happening in Serbia at the moment, for all the personal efforts of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, to implement the reforms, that they proceed at a satisfactory pace and that Serbia again has a positive signal from the European Union, which will in turn give us additional motivation to work on opening other clusters. The next one we are working on is certainly Cluster 2," she said.

Brnabic adds that, regardless of the technical details of Serbia's negotiations with the EU regarding membership, communication has recently intensified and there is better understanding, of course with many problems.

"But, it is generally good for our European path," said Brnabic.
