37th Sitting of the Health and Family Committee

At the sitting held on 22 February, the members of the Health and Family Committee discussed the Bill on Public Health and the Bill on Protection of Citizens Against Infectious Diseases, in principle.

The bills were elaborated by State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Prof. Dr Berislav Vekic who said that Bill on Public Health adjusts the ten recognised key public health areas of action to the recommendation of the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe and its objective is to realise public interest by creating conditions conducive to the preservation and improvement of public health through comprehensive social activities.

The Bill on Protection of Citizens Against Infectious Diseases regulates the development and implementation of epidemiological measures, ensures the funds for their implementation and enables the monitoring of the implementation of the law. Vekic added that the fact that the law in force is now 10 years old makes it imperative to harmonise national legislation with European regulations, the International Health Rulebook, other international acts and the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the European Union.

The sitting was attended by Committee members and deputy members Dr Branislav Blazic, Annamaria Vicsek, Dr Ninoslav Giric, Prof. Dr Milan Knezevic, Dr Gordana Zoric, Ljiljana Kosoric, MD Darko Laketic, Dr Predrag Mijatovic, Prof. Dr Dusan Milisavljevic, Dr Ljubica Mrdakovic Todorovic, Mileta Poskurica, Dr Vesna Rakonjac, Dr Aleksandar Radojevic, as well as representatives of the competent Ministry.
