16th Sitting of the European Integration Committee

At the sitting held on 10 April the members of the European Integration Committee considered the Report on the Republic of Serbia’s EU accession talks during the Presidency of the Slovak Republic, July-December 2016, submitted by the Government, and the Report on the Republic of Serbia’s EU accession talks for the period January-March 2017. The reports were presented by Tanja Miscevic, Head of Serbia’s EU Negotiating Team.

Miscevic said that, by the end of Malta’s presidency, the Republic of Serbia expects reports on two negotiating chapters, stressing that the Government is hard at work on chapters that are yet to be opened because the objective is to send as many chapters as possible to Brussels. She believes that the negotiation process has been beneficial for Serbia on many levels because it drew many before invisible problems into the spotlight.

“By opening negotiations we have opened many questions which have so far been swept under the rug, for which we have to find answers and we do not have a lot of time to do it”, said Miscevic.

She stressed that the successful cooperation with civil society organisations, most of which are part of the National Convention on the European Union, has continued, and that organizations not in the Convention have also joined the talks.

The Committee members adopted the Report on the Republic of Serbia’s EU accession talks during the Presidency of the Slovak Republic, July-December 2016, submitted by the Government, and the Report on the Republic of Serbia’s EU accession talks for the period January-March 2017, by majority vote.

The Committee went on to appoint members to represent it at the Interparliamentary Conference on “Public Procurement and the Role of the Parliament” at the European Parliament in Brussels, 2 – 3 May 2017.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Marinika Tepic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dusica Stojkovic, Branko Ruzic, Jovan Jovanovic, Gordana Comic, Vesna Markovic, Olivera Pesic, Zvonimir Djokic, Zarko Micin, Elvira Kovacs, Milimir Vujadinovic and Dubravka Filipovski.
