10th Sitting of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy

At the sitting held on 6 April 2021, the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy considered the basis for the conclusion of the Partnership, Trade and Cooperation an Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Joint Declaration concerning a Trilateral Approach to Rules of Origin and Joint Declaration on the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland and the Partnership, Trade and Cooperation an Agreement to grant consent for the temporary implementation of the Agreement until coming into force, submitted by the Government.

The Agreement was presented by Stevan Nikcevic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, saying that the conclusion of the Agreement is very important, primarily due to the strengthening of the long-standing economic cooperation and adding that the economic relations between our country and the United Kingdom have existed for 200 years and have recently experienced expansion, especially since 2016, when trade and total economic exchange amounted to over one billion euros. He also stated that in 2019, the trade exchange with the UK amounted to around 557 million euros.

According to Stevan Nikcevic, Serbia has had a trade surplus with the UK since 2016, adding that, among other things, that surplus amounted to 94 million euros in 2019. Speaking of trade in services, in recent years, the UK has become Serbia’s partner no.3, resulting in a 164 million euro surplus.

After a detailed explanation, the Committee unanimously decided to approve the Government of the Republic of Serbia’s temporary application of the grounds for the conclusion of the Partnership, Trade and Cooperation an Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Joint Declaration concerning a Trilateral Approach to Rules of Origin and Joint Declaration on the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland and the Partnership, Trade and Cooperation an Agreement with a view of grant consenting for the temporary implementation of the Agreement until coming into force.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Veroljub Arsic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Gojko Palalic, Branimir Jovanovic, Tihomir Petkovic, Adrijana Pupovac, Vesna Stambolic, Snezana Petrovic, Miloš Bandjur, Natasa Ljubinkovic, Sonja Vlahovic, Nevenka Kostadinova, Ana Beloica, Snezana Paunovic, Uglješa Markovic, Vojislav Vujic and Mina Kitanovic.
