10th Meeting of Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Serbia National Branch

At its 10th meeting, held on 19 February, the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Serbia National Branch reviewed the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Serbia National Branch 2016-2017 Activity Programme Proposal and the 2015 Anti-Corruption Assessment Report.

The members of the GOPAC Serbia National Branch also discussed their participation at the coming conference in Azerbaijan and the future regional branch, as well as the presentation of the activities of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Serbia National Branch at the introductory seminar for the new MPs at the National Assembly.

GOPAC Secretary Ljiljana Miletic Zivkovic presented the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Serbia National Branch 2016-2017 Activity Programme Proposal.

The Programme’s objectives concern GOPAC’s regular activities and the establishment of the GOPAC regional branch, supervision of public finances and cooperation between the national branch and independent state bodies. Among the most important objectives for 2016-2017, the programme lists continuation and expansion of cooperation with civil society organizations, presentation of results through communication with the citizens and raising awareness on the importance of fighting corruption.

GOPAC member Dubravka Filipovski stressed that, within the regular activities concerning the establishment of the GOPAC regional branch, the organization achieved excellent cooperation with parliamentarians from Bosnia and Herzegovina and parliamentarians and representatives of UNDP from Macedonia who confirmed that their countries would be setting up national branches which would in turn facilitate the establishment of the GOPAC regional branch. Filipovski believes that the introduction of the Public Finance Supervision Portal is a major achievement, stressing that in order for it to gain its full potential soon, it needs to be implemented in stages.

Discussing the activity plan, the participants mainly focused on how to improve the operation of the branch and suggested establishing an operative body within GOPAC to actively pursue GOPAC’s duties and tasks.

The GOPAC members were then presented the 2015 Anti-Corruption Assessment Report which they accepted.

The GOPAC members also decided to postpone discussing the representatives of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Serbia National Branch for the conference in Azerbaijan and the future regional branch, for one of the coming meetings i.e. once they have information on the exact date of the conference.

They did however reach an agreement concerning the presentation of GOPAC activities at the introductory seminar for the new MPs at the National Assembly.
