At the sitting held on 5 October, the Poverty Reduction Committee was briefed on the regional conference on the Fight against poverty and social exclusion within the European integration process: role of national parliaments.

Committee Chairperson Snezana Stojanovic-Plavsic informed the Committee that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia would host the conference whose organisation was aided by the Regional Cooperation Council, from 11 to 13 October.

The conference will focus on the harmonisation of national legislation with European Union legislation, the part dealing with social inclusion and fight against poverty, said Snezana Stojanovic-Plavsic.

The Committee members endorsed the initiative and stated that the National Assembly would thus take part not only in a joint search for a solution to improve the position of the most endangered part of the population but also contribute to strengthen cooperation between parliaments of the states in the region. The Committee also endorsed the proposal that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia take part in the organisation of the 2010 Social Entrepreneurship Tour to be held on 30 October. The initiative was launched by Muhammad Yunus, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and originator of the idea of social entrepreneurship.
