Thirty-Second Sitting of the Youth and Sports Committee

At the sitting held on 12 December the members of the Youth and Sports Committee considered the Ministry of Youth and Sport Activity Information for the period January-September 2011.

The sitting was attended by Ivana Kovacevic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sport, and associates, as well as representatives of the Karate Federation of Serbia.

The representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sport briefed the Committee members present on the results achieved in the previous period, as well as the goals to be realised in the upcoming period.

They stressed the importance of the adoption of two laws - Law on Sport and Law on Youth. They also emphasised the importance of passing the Sport Development Strategy in the Republic of Serbia which envisages a great number of activities aimed at reaching three strategic goals – sport among children and youth, top sport and sport infrastructure development. The adoption of the Law on Youth and National Youth Strategy created the legal grounds to ensure continuous and sustainable care for the youth. The Ministry continued to maintain intensive international cooperation by taking part in international bodies dealing with youth policy. Bilateral youth and sport policy agreements were signed with Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Macedonia. They also stressed the success of the Youth Talent Fund which has, since its foundation in 2008 to date, provided scholarships and awards for more than 6000 high-school and university students.

Following a debate, the Committee members unanimously adopted the Ministry of Youth and Sport Activity Information for the period January-September 2011.

In the continuation, the Committee discussed the dispute between the Karate Federation of Serbia and Karate Federation of Belgrade.

The sitting was chaired by Milan Vuckovic, Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee.
