Thirtieth Sitting of the Youth and Sports Committee

The Youth and Sports Committee held its thirtieth sitting on 4 October 2011. The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Milan Vuckovic and attended by Snezana Samardzic-Markovic, Minister of Youth and Sport and associates, Borisav Stankovic, Secretary General of the School Sports and Olympic Education Federation of Serbia and Council of Europe representatives.


The Committee members considered the information on the organisation of the 9th Student Olympic sport games of the Republic of Serbia Sremska Mitrovica 2012. Greeting all present, Committee Chairman Milan Vuckovic emphasised the importance of such a sporting event for the promotion of sporting culture among the youth. Minister of Youth and Sport Snezana Samardzic-Markovic said that the Ministry, School Sports and Olympic Education Federation of Serbia and many other organisations consider the event very important. The representatives of the Council of Europe briefed the Committee on the activities implemented by the organisation to promote sport and prevent its negative aspects such as violence and doping.

Borisav Stankovic, Secretary General of the School Sports and Olympic Education Federation of Serbia, briefed the Committee on the organisation of the Student Olympic sport games of the Republic of Serbia Sremska Mitrovica 2012 and the Federation’s activities. He stressed that the Olympic Games in Serbia enjoy more than 40 years of a tradition and they expect the event to involve more than 4000 students and 500 teachers. He also said that the Olympic Games help develop moral principles in children such as fair play and friendship and spread the ideal of the Olympic spirit. Events such as this one aim to, among other things, enable underprivileged children to take part in sport. Zoran Avramovic, member of the National Sports Council of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, stressed that the Olympic Games would help develop the idea of sport among the youth and that it was important to raise cooperation with the media onto a higher level so as to promote sporting values more successfully.
