Committee Chairman Dr Sci.med Darko Laketic said that the reasons for the amendments to the existing Law stem from the need to overcome problems arising from the practical implementation of the rules, regulations, decisions and orders issued by the authorities in line with the Law on Protection of the Population from Communicable Diseases. The Law stipulates that healthcare institutions, private practices, legal entities, entrepreneurs, healthcare workers and the general populace are legally bound to implement the measures prescribed by the Law and act per orders issued by sanitary inspectors for the protection of the population from communicable diseases, however there have been no misdemeanor charges for not acting in accordance with the authorities’ decisions and orders. It was also necessary to raise the legal minimum penalty fees for these violations.

Following a discussion with the representatives of the Ministry of Health attending the sitting, the Committee members accepted the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Protection of the Population from Communicable Diseases, in principle.
