Third Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the third sitting, held on 6 September, the Foreign Affairs Committee considered several issues related to the National Assembly’s parliamentary cooperation in the upcoming period.


The Committee accepted four initiatives to dispatch NARS delegations and representatives - to the World e-Parliament Conference to be held in Rome from 13 to 15 September 2012, International Parliamentary Games in Moscow from 4 to 8 October, a seminar of the George Marshall European Centre for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen from 17 to 19 October and the opening of the “Month of Serbian Culture” event of the Self-Government of Serbs in Hungary, in Budapest from 14 to 16 September.

The Committee members went on to consider the upcoming regular activities of the National Assembly’s standing delegations to international organisations. They accepted to dispatch representatives to the Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative Parliamentary Dimension in Kyiv from 26 to 28 September 2012, the fourth part of the regular session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg from 1 to 5 October 2012 and the 127th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Quebec from 21 to 26 October 2012.

At the sitting, the Committee also accepted several invitations to send representatives to the meetings of the Council of Europe PA committees in November and December this year. Three Council of Europe PA committees - on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee) and Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy will meet in Paris on 12, 13 and 14 November. The PACE Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development will meet in Moscow on 19 November, and on 20 November will meet with the Network of parliamentarians to fight sexual violence against children. The meeting of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons will be held on 26 November in Geneva, and the meetings of the Bureau and Standing Committee of the Council of Europe PA in Andorra on 29 and 30 November.

Four Council of Europe PA committees will meet in December in Paris - on Equality and Non-Discrimination (3 December), on Legal Affairs and Human Rights (11 December), on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee) (12 December) and on Political Affairs and Democracy (13 December). The Bureau of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly will meet in Paris on 17 December, which will also be the venue of the meeting of the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media on 18 December.

The Committee members also discussed the contacts realised by the National Assembly Speaker, MA Nebojsa Stefanovic in July and August, viz. his meeting with Igor Radojicic, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska on 13 August 2012, as well as the NARS Speaker’s meetings with the ambassadors of the US, Japan, Russian Federation, FR Germany, Algeria, Iraq and Belarus to Belgrade, the UK chargé d'affaires, Head of the OSCE Mission and UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia.
