Theatrical Play Seven

“In addition to today’s message from Kragujevac that a crime such as the one in Sumarice should never happen again, the play Seven sends one more message – to stop violence against women”, said Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic.

In the theatrical play Seven performed at the Serbian Court Theatre in Kragujevac, in addition to dramatic artists, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and Deputy Prime Minister Verica Kalanovic spoke about the fate and courage of seven women’s rights activists from around the world.

Djukic-Dejanovic said that participating in the play, for her, was both an honour and a responsibility. The play speaks of seven women’s rights activists from Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, Russia, Guatemala, Pakistan, Cambodia and Nigeria in a moving and compelling way. The National Assembly Speaker played the part of Marina Pisklakova Parker who, despite grave difficulties, managed to launch the first hotline for victims of domestic violence in 1993. Parker’s initiative became ANNA centre which has helped more than 100 000 Russian women. The play Seven, performed in Serbia for the first time, was directed and produced by Hedda Krausz Sjögren from Sweden.
