Talks with representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dragan Marsicanin, today met the rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe.


The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dragan Marsicanin, today met the rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe.

The talks between Mr Marsicanin and the Assembly Vice-chairman, Predrag Markovic, the Committee’s rapporteur, Jonas Cekuolis, and the head of the OSCE office in Serbia and Montenegro, Jorgen Grunet, centred on Bills to be discussed at the National Assembly’s current session. Apart from electoral legislation, the Council of Europe and OSCE representatives also expressed interest in legislation on the people’s advocate, local self-government, the situation in the judiciary, the election of members of the Broadcasting Council and the plans for the adoption of a new Constitution. They stressed the readiness to continue providing assistance and support in harmonising Serbian legislation with European standards.

The rapporteurs of the PACE Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States, on a first-time visit to Serbia and Montenegro as part of the PACE procedure of monitoring obligations undertaken by Serbia and Montenegro as a member state of the Council of Europe, will today meet represetatives of parliamentary deputies’ groups of the Democratic Party of Serbia, G17 Plus, the Serbian Renewal Movement - New Serbia, the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party of Serbia.
