The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and acting President of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, today met a delegation of United States Senate and House of Representatives staffers, on a visit to Belgrade. The visitors expressed special interest in the political situation in Serbia, the drafting of the new Constitution, as well as presidential elections and Kosovo.
Mr Markovic expressed his belief that Serbia would have a pro-democratic and democratically-elected president by the end of June, that the situation in Kosovo would stabilise, with the full co-operation and collaboration of the international community, and that a new constitution would be adopted, which would all lead to Serbia’s greater contribution to stability in the Balkans and make the country an even more important partner of the United States.
