Subcommittee for Consideration of Reports on Conducted Audits Visits State Audit Institution


The members of the newly-established Subcommittee for the Consideration of Reports on Audits Conducted by the State Audit Institution visited the State Audit Institution on 10 March and met with the representatives of the State Audit Institution to discuss how to cooperation in order to ensure more efficient control of public spending.


At the meeting, the Subcommittee members, President and members of the State Audit Institution Council and supreme state auditors agreed that the Institution and the Subcommittee should join forces and set up a system to monitor the implementation of the recommendations of the State Audit Institution and National Assembly, so as to improve the financial system and accountability in the Republic of Serbia.
They also agreed that the State Audit Institution should organise workshops for the members of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending and the Subcommittee to teach them about audit planning, selection of audit subjects and reading of audit reports.
The President of the State Audit Institution Radoslav Sretenovic said that the Institution stands ready to help the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending and the Subcommittee understand the importance of audit findings and seeking suitable corrective mechanisms, without impinging on its independence, pointing out that the Institution’s efficiency depends on the National Assembly’s support.
Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic, Subcommittee Chair, said that the State Audit Institution’s recommendations to the audit subjects are taken very seriously, adding that the work of the State Audit Institution is very important for the system, the rule of law and because of the very status of the Institution. He also pointed out that the Institution should orientate toward the biggest problems in the country, saying that the Institution will find a fitting partner in the Subcommittee.
In the course of the visit, the supreme state auditors briefed the Subcommittee members on the key systemic problems they came up against during the audits of public fund beneficiaries, which the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending and the Subcommittee are to review in the upcoming period so as to address them adequately.
The Subcommittee members also visited some of the offices of the State Audit Institution to learn more of the auditors’ working conditions.
The State Audit Institution was visited by the following Subcommittee members: Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic (Chair), Ivan Jovanovic, Zoran Bojanic, Dragoljub Zindovic, Vojislav Vujic and Boban Birmancevic.
