Sixth and Seventh Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

On 27 February 2023, the Security Services Control Committee held its sixth and seventh sittings, closed to the public.


At a separate session, the Committee considered and adopted the Ministry of Defence Services Inspector General regular activity report.

In the reporting period, the Ministry of Defence Services Inspector General carried out regular inspections in both agencies’ directorates, as well as in the Military Security Agency and the Military Intelligence Agency centres.

In the reviewed cases, no illegalities or irregularities were observed and the budget funds were spent in accordance with plans and in compliance with regulations.

The Committee welcomed the positive assessments of the legality and regularity of the work of the Ministry of Defence security services presented by the Ministry of Defence Services Inspector General for the reporting period.

The Committee members assessed that the Inspector General’s suggestions and proposals contribute to the improvement of the efficiency, legality and regularity of the work of the Ministry of Defence security services.

At a separate session, the Committee considered and adopted the Military Intelligence Agency activity reports.

The Committee members once again emphasised that it is important to restate that the media information regarding the presence of the Wagner Group in the Republic of Serbia is incorrect and that no member of the Serbian Armed Forces, active or retired, participates in the activities of this group, adding that such completely inaccurate media information is part of activities aimed at discrediting the Republic of Serbia and the state leadership, and it is therefore necessary to clearly deny this information.

In the course of the sitting, at the request of the Committee Chairman, the Director of the Military Intelligence Agency informed the members of the Committee about the current security and political situation in our country and about the pressures the Republic of Serbia and our state leadership are under.

Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic pointed out the need for and importance of providing full support to the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and the state leadership at a time when difficult decisions need to be made in the interest of protecting our national and state interests.

The Director of the Military Intelligence Agency provided the Committee members with detailed answers to questions and clarifications related to the reports. The Committee members gave a positive assessment of the Military Intelligence Agency’s reports, indicating that they provide insight into the Military Intelligence Agency’s work and results in the reporting period in a comprehensive and complete manner. It was established that in the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency carried out all tasks within its jurisdiction in accordance with valid legal regulations, in the interest of protecting the security of the Republic of Serbia and all its citizens.

According to the Committee members, In the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency had reported on global and regional challenges, risks and threats in a timely manner and informed competent users about other phenomena significant for the security of the Republic of Serbia.

Also, recognising the significant role of defence attache offices, as organisational units of the Military Intelligence Agency, the members of the Committee expressed a unified position to provide full support for the opening of new defence attache offices in accordance with the foreign policy interests of the Republic of Serbia.

Interagency cooperation, as well as the cooperation of the Military Intelligence Agency with other state bodies, was praised. This type of cooperation contributes to the timely detection of risks to the security of the Republic of Serbia and the timely undertaking of effective measures to eliminate them.

The Committee positively assessed the efforts of the Military Intelligence Agency to continuously improve bilateral and multilateral cooperation with partner services in very complex global and regional conditions, enabling a more efficient verification of data and information and contributing to greater reliability of assessments and strengthening of trust and cooperation between agencies.
