Sixth Sitting of the Health and Family Committee

At the sitting held on 6 October 2023, the members of the Health and Family Committee were informed about HPV immunisation – presentation of “HPV Atlas” by the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights.


Committee Chairman Prim. Doc. Dr Darko Laketic said that the Committee had recognised the importance of a proactive joint action by all relevant factors in the early detection of the HPV virus, as well as in the prevention of the infection caused by human papillomavirus.

In addition to the Committee members, the sitting was also attended by Minister of Health Prof. Dr Danica Grujicic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography Stana Bozovic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education Prof. Dr Marijana Dukic Mijatovic, Director of “Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" Public Health Institute Prof. Dr Verica Jovanovic and Acting Director of the Republic Health Insurance Fund Prof. Dr Sanja Radojevic Skodric, as well as representatives of the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights.

Marina Davidashvili, representative of the European Parliamentary Forum, presented the findings of the "HPV Atlas" to the attending, which is an atlas of prevention and public information policies in European countries that presents achievements at the national level. She opined that Serbia has made a big step forward in informing the public about the importance of prevention and early detection of cervical cancer, as well as in the promotion of gender-neutral immunization.

Minister of Health Prof. Dr Danica Grujicic listed the activities undertaken by the Ministry in the previous year, saying that the implementation of the recommended immunization against human papillomavirus has been defined, which should be conducted from the age of nine, primarily among children in the seventh grade of elementary school, until the age of 19. Grujicic also said that the vaccine has been available in health centres since June 2022, since when over 54,600 doses have been administered.

State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Prof. Dr Marijana Dukic Mijatovic spoke about the importance of promoting vaccination among the student population, and, together with the State Secretary in the Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography Stana Bozovic, emphasized the importance of prevention and a multisectoral approach in combating infections caused by the human papillomavirus.

After the sitting, the MPs attended the promotion of the "HPV Atlas", intended for the general public and the media.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Prim. Doc. Dr Darko Laketic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Jana Mateovic, Dr Nada Macura, Biljana Ilic Stosic, MA Svetlana Milijic, Srdjan Simic, Dr Marko Bogdanovic, Prof. Dr Mirka Lukic Sarkanovic, Marija Vojinovic, Marija Jevdjic, Dr Muamer Bacevac, Radmila Vasic, Selma Kucevic, Dr Zoran Zecevic and Marija Todorovic, as well as MP Doc. Dr Biljana Djordjevic, who is not member of the Committee.
