Sixth Sitting of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija

At the sitting held on 27 September at the National Assembly House, the members of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija discussed the operation of the Republic of Serbia healthcare system in AP Kosovo-Metohija.


At the beginning of the sitting, Berislav Vekic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health, briefed the Committee members on the funds expended and projects realized in the previous period, stressing that of the 30 healthcare institutions established by the Ordinance on the Healthcare Centre Network on the territory of AP Kosovo-Metohija which regulates all issues of relevance for the organization of the healthcare service in the Republic of Serbia, 23 are in operation, staffed by 4,823 employees, 600 of which are engaged in other healthcare institutions in the Republic of Serbia. Vekic also said that, at the initiative of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija, a Working Group for the transformation of the healthcare institutions on the territory of AP Kosovo-Metohija was set up to analyse the existing organization and HQ capacities of the healthcare institutions and propose the most rational solution for a new organization of the healthcare service on the territory of AP Kosovo-Metohija.

Having compared the actual number of staff according to the Republic Health Insurance Fund to that of the healthcare institutions, toured the healthcare institutions in the field and analysed the accessibility of the services to the Serbian and Albanian population, the Working Group had proposed as a possible option to boost efficiency of the healthcare, merging the healthcare institutions at the primary level and eliminating those that do not provide healthcare services. The Working Group also proposed amendments and modifications to the Ordinance for seven healthcare institutions (of the existing 30).

Dusan Kozarev, Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija, said that despite the many difficulties, the healthcare system in AP Kosovo-Metohija operates as best as it can at present, while Sladjana Markovic Stojanovic, Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija, said that the Office for Kosovo-Metohija had in co-operation with the Ministry of Health in the previous period resolved the status of 1,171 inactive personnel.

Milovan Krivokapic, Director of the Institute of Public Health in Kosovska Mitrovica, said that investing into the healthcare system, is investing in the quality of life and the survival of Serbs on the territory of AP Kosovo-Metohija.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Milovan Drecun and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Mirko Krlic, Miodrag Linta, Aleksandar Markovic, Jelena Mijatovic, Vladimir Petkovic, Milovan Krivokapic, Miroslav Lazanjski, Tanja Tomasevic Damnjanovic, Zvonimir Stevic, Haji Milorad Stosic, Bozidar Delic, Miljan Damjanovic, Gordana Comic, Zoran Radojicic, Goran Bogdanovic and Slavisa Ristic.
