Seventh Sitting of the European Integration Committee

At the session held on 1 April 2021, the members of the Committee for European Integration considered the Report on the Republic of Serbia’s EU Accession Negotiations during the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Germany (July-December 2020), presented by the Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic.

She said that Serbia had great expectations of the German presidency, having in mind Germany’s well-known attitude towards the enlargement policy, but due to the extraordinary circumstances caused by the corona virus pandemic, the priorities of both the EU and its member states changed.

No negotiation chapters were opened during the German presidency, Joksimovic said, adding that this was not a consequence of Serbia's stagnation in the reform processes, but the outcome of numerous and multi-layered causes.

Joksimovic also pointed out the new negotiation methodology created in the reposting period, according to which the 35 negotiation chapters are now grouped in six clusters. The clusters also define the common EU policies and assess how much the candidate countries participate in them, she said. Minister Joksimovic went on to point out that the format of the Intergovernmental Conference has also been improved with the new methodology and that the European Integration Committee and the National Assembly were given more responsibility in the new negotiation methodology.

Following a discussion, the Committee members adopted the Report on the Republic of Serbia’s EU Accession Negotiations during the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Germany and proposed that the National Assembly consider and accept it.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Samira Cosovic, Dubravka Filipovski, Ana Miljanic, Viktor Jevtovic, Vesna Rankovic, Zagorka Aleksic, Dijana Radovic, Predrag Rajic, Milan Radin, Nemanja Joksimovic, Vesna Markovic, Ana Pesic and Dusica Stojkovic.
