Seventh Sitting of the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government

At the sitting held on 26 December 2020, the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government considered the 2019 Report on the public prosecutor’s offices’ activity on the suppression of criminality and protection of constitutionality, State Prosecutorial Council 2019 Activity Report and the High Judicial Council 2019 Annual Activity Report.


The 2019 Report on the public prosecutor’s offices’ activity on the suppression of criminality and protection of constitutionality was presented by Branko Stamenkovic, Deputy Republic Public Prosecutor.

Stamenkovic said that in 2019 the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office, appellate, higher and basic public prosecutor's offices, Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and the Prosecutor's Office for War Crimes had received a total of 555,664 cases, which is a 6% decrease compared to 2018. Speaking of the structure of the cases, most are criminal. The Republic Public Prosecutor's Office had received 13,639 cases in the reporting year, which is significantly less than the previous year when it received 33,157 cases. However, the number of reports against minors increased by 6% compared to the previous year.

During 2019, a total of 40,637 people were indicted, which is 2.5% less than in 2018.

The State Prosecutorial Council 2019 Activity Report was presented by Tatjana Lagumdzija, elective member of the State Prosecutorial Council.

The Report states that 1,974 cases were opened in the Administrative Office in 2019, which is a decrease of 27.96% in filed cases compared to 2018, and a decrease of 37.78% compared to 2017.

The High Judicial Council 2019 Annual Activity Report was presented by Matija Radojicic, elective member of the High Judicial Council from the ranks of judges.

The Report states that a total of 10,509 cases were filed in 2019. 1,137 cases from 2019 were archived, as well as 4,747 cases from previous years.

The Committee on Justice, State Administration and Local Self-Government unanimously accepted the reports that were considered at the sitting.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Vladimir Djukanovic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Nevena Veinovic, Sanja Jefic Brankovic, Djordje Dabic, Nenad Baros, Daniel Gyivanovity, Dejan Kesar, Biljana Pantic Pilja, Dubravka Kralj, Djordje Komlenski and Jelena Zaric Kovacevic.
