At the sitting held on 16 April, the Foreign Affairs Committee conducted an interview with the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Islamic Republic of Iran Aleksandar Tasic, before his departure for diplomatic duty. The meeting was headed by Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, Committee Chairman.

Talking about the priorities of his upcoming work, Ambassador Tasic pointed out that Serbia was interested in furthering bilateral cooperation with Iran, primarily strengthening economic cooperation in view of the comparative advantages of the two countries’ economies and vast potential for increasing the volume of trade.

Iran has not recognised the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija and supports Serbia’s request that the International Court of Justice rule on the legality of the act, Ambassador Tasic said. He also pointed out Iran’s specific international position stressing that Serbia calls for dialogue and compromise as means to achieve solutions that would bring stability to the Near East region and contribute to the broad disarmament action.

The Committee members accepted the positions presented by the newly-appointed Ambassador to Iran, Aleksandar Tasic.
