Serbian World War Two Victims Memorial Day

“I signed the Press’ initiative with all my heart because as a Kragujevac native I feel the importance of the date”, said Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic at the First Grammar School of Kragujevac.

The Serbian Government adopted the initiative of Press daily newspaper to declare 21 October the Memorial Day for Serbian victims of World War Two. The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic was the first signatory of the initiative.

At the invitation of Press daily newspaper, the National Assembly Speaker attended a lesson held at the First Grammar School of Kragujevac on the occasion. “There is no date expressing such sadness as the memory of 21 October 1941 when each house in Kragujevac flew a black flag and Erdoglija brook ran red with blood. It is a privilege to be in a classroom today where one does not learn for a grade but for life. As long as you, dear pupils, keep the memory of the victims of October 21st and alike alive, so lives the faith that the evil of fascism will not be repeated” - said Djukic-Dejanovic.

The lesson at the First Grammar School of Kragujevac was also attended by Dragoljub Jovanovic, the last living witness of the crime in Sumarice.
