Serbian Police Among Most Efficient in World in Fight against Drug Trafficking

The Head of the parliamentary delegation at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Ecuador, Marija Obradovic, speaking as panelist at the roundtable, commended the work of the Serbian police and urged the representatives of parliaments from all over the world for more intensive international cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking and organised crime, especially in the sphere of legislation.

In addition to Marija Obradovic, yesterday’s very well-attended panel was also addressed by Afghan MP Farkhunda Zahra, Julio Calzada, secretary general of Uruguay's National Committee on Drugs and journalist Erik de la Reguera. The panel was moderated by Lord Dholakia of the UK Parliament’s House of Lords. More than 100 MPs from 70 countries across the world took part in the panel.
In a very lively three-hour debate, the participants had the chance to share their countries’ activities in the fight against drug trafficking, ask questions and give comments. “The considerable interest for and dynamic debate at the panel show that it is time for the parliamentarians of the world to take a clear and unequivocal position, to condemn criminal activities and lead a decisive fight against illegal drug trafficking and all accompanying criminal activities. A proposal was also launched for the Inter-Parliamentary Union to adopt a resolution on the issue at its 130th Assembly. I am glad that Serbia had the chance to be among the bearers of the initiative”, stressed Obradovic.
The panel was followed by the media from the entire Latin American region and the world.
