Security Services Control Committee Chairperson Talks to European Commission Delegation

Jadranka Joksimovic, Chairperson of the Security Services Control Committee, spoke today with a delegation of the European Commission, headed by the EU Enlargement Director General Stefano Sannino. Vincent Degert, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, also attended the meeting.

Stefano Sannino applauded Serbia’s determination to become a full EU member and stressed that in its first hundred days in power the Government has made quite a positive impression and the European Commission is very happy with the way the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina commenced. He stressed the proactive approach to the Kosovo problem and stated that this visit aims to send a message that there is continuity and readiness to carry on with the joint effort on Serbia’s progress toward the EU.

Jadranka Joksimovic said that Serbia appreciated the assistance and support and welcomed the recommendations and suggestions coming from the EU. The European Union is the country’s natural partner which is why Serbia is very dedicated to the creation of the prerequisites for an imminent beginning of negotiations about EU accession. She emphasised the need to maintain regular contacts and for more frequent meetings between European dignitaries and Serbian MPs.

The Committee Chairperson informed her guest about the work of the Security Services Control Committee, its upcoming activities and activity plan for the remainder of the year. She pointed out that a Working Group was recently formed to draft documents on the manner in which the Committee would directly supervise the work of the security services, as stipulated by law.
