In the course of the meeting, the officials opined that the National Assembly, and the Security Services Control Committee in particular, enjoy successful and efficient cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia, first and foremost as regards strengthening the Parliament and Committee’s control role. They highlighted the need to continue the successful cooperation between the Committee and OSCE Mission through seminars aimed at improving the control capacities of the National Assembly committees. In that sense, Jadranka Joksimovic stressed the importance of pilot-project “Assembly control and oversight of the security sector”, to be realised next year in cooperation of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Democratisation Department and the Military Academy’s School of National Defence, with the support of the Security Services Control Committee and Defence and Internal Affairs Committee.

Jadranka Joksimovic briefed Ambassador Peter Burkhard on the activities the Committee had realised so far as regards direct supervision of the security services’ operation and on the cooperation between the Committee and independent state bodies. Joksimovic also pointed out importance of parliamentary control over the security services in the context of Serbia’s European integration, sharing her pleasure at the positive evaluation of the Committee’s work in the last European Commission Progress Report on Serbia.
