Second Sitting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child

At the sitting held on 19 April 2021, the Committee on the Rights of the Child set up a Working Group for Initiatives, Petitions and Proposals.

Committee Chairman Ivica Dacic said that, having in mind the representative function of the Assembly and the Committee, it is very important to form a Working Group, considering the large number of citizens addressing the Committee, both in writing and by e-mail, telephone and coming to the National Assembly in person. He also recommended that the Working Group should initiate a Committee sitting if it considers a particular petition to be of great importance or if it receives a number of petitions relating to the same issue.

The Committee unanimously adopted the proposal of Chairman Dacic that Jelena Mijatovic be elected Working Group Chairperson, and Milanka Jeftovic Vukojicic, Mesala Pramenkovic, Dr Vesna Ivkovic, Ilija Zivotic, Dr Emesa Uri and Zagorka Aleksic be elected members.

Under item any other business, the Chairman informed the Committee members that the newly-formed Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography has recognized the natural connection with the Committee for the Rights of the Child and announced that it would, in the coming period, inform the Committee about its activities, as it is its duty to submit quarterly information on the work of the Ministry. Also, the Ministry announced that they are working on amendments to the Family Law, as well as on the law on the rights of the child and the protector of the rights of the child, which are in the draft phase.

Chairman Dacic also said that Jelena Mijatovic was appointed member of the National Coalition to End Child Marriage in Serbia on behalf of the Committee, which contributed to the formation and operation of that body.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Ivica Dacic and and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Radovan Tvrdisic, Elvira Kovacs, Jelena Mijatovic, Jelena Obradovic, Nikola Lazic, Natasa Ivanovic, Dubravka Filipovski, Milija Miletic, Milanka Jevtovic Vukojicic, Milijana Sakic, Rajka Matovic, Dr Vesna Ivkovic and Haji Milord Stosic.
