Sandra Bozic at International Anti-Corruption Day Ceremony

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Sandra Bozic spoke at the solemn academy marking International Anti-Corruption Day, at the National Assembly House.

She welcomed the guests on behalf of National Assembly Speaker Dr Vladimir Orlic and on her own behalf to the National Assembly House, which, she pointed out, is the home of all the citizens of Serbia, the institution the Agency is accountable to for its work and in which, after a complex procedure, its director is elected.

"Allow me to proudly say that all together, we as the legislative authority and you, who form the backbone of the fight against corruption in Serbia, managed to establish the Agency as a completely independent and independent state body. Your latest actions and activities concerning the pre-election campaign for t this year’s elections that await us on 17 December, show that today, in Serbia, we have an Agency that is professional, transparent and above all autonomous and independent in its decision-making," said the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

She emphasised that the latest 2022 Activity Report supports this, adding that the Agency has extremely bravely and responsibly approached the application of the new Law on the Financing of Political Activities and very successfully contributed to the new normative framework, especially through the trainings organised for political subjects, media and civil society organisations. "All the efforts you made resulted in the fact that, in terms of compliance with the recommendations of the Council of Europe Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), in the part that concerning prevention of corruption in relation to MPs, judges and prosecutors, from March 2022 the Republic of Serbia is no longer among the states that are in a "globally unsatisfactory regime", stressed the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

She also emphasised the importance of cooperation with young people, that is the students of the law faculties in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac.

"Please allow me to end my address with the words of a chess tournament, with which you will close the celebration of International Anti-Corruption Day - CHECKMATE TO CORRUPTION in Serbia," concluded Sandra Bozic.
