Risticevic with Delegation of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee

The Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Marijan Risticevic, Committee member Dijana Radovic and MP Dejan Bulatovic met in the National Assembly with the delegation of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee headed by Committee Vice Chairperson Chi Zal.

The officials expressed satisfaction with the exceptional cooperation between the two countries and mutual support in preserving territorial integrity and sovereignty. They opined that the achieved strategic partnership was additionally strengthened by the signing of the Free Trade Agreement on 17 October 2023, at the international forum within the "Belt and Road" initiative, with the presence of the presidents of Serbia and China, Aleksandar Vucic and Xi Jinping. They assessed that this important Agreement, which largely refers to the field of agriculture, is the result of long-term cooperation between the two countries.

Marijan Risticevic thanked the Republic of China for all the investments in Serbia’s infrastructure and economy, which amounted to approximately 14 billion euros by 2022, pointing out that there is significant scope for cooperation and investment in the areas of animal husbandry and the processing industry, as well as for the export of fruits grown in Serbia, such as apples, plums, raspberries and blackberries.

The head of the Chinese delegation Chi Zal said that the aim of this visit is to get to know Serbia's agricultural potential better, indicating that cooperation in the fields of agriculture, forestry and water management can be developed more deeply within the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative.

The members of the Committee for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management briefed the guests on its competences and working methods, and they also exchanged opinions on the situation in agriculture and the need for greater investment in rural development so that young people would stay and engage in agriculture. They emphasised the importance of environmental protection and joint cooperation in promoting the development of green and low-carbon agriculture.
