Republic of Srpska National Assembly Delegation Visits National Assembly

A delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska visited the National Assembly today, in line with the Protocol on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska.


The delegation met, separately, with the chairpersons and members of five assembly committees to discuss the same topic – boosting cooperation between the working bodies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

In the meeting of the European Integration Committee Chairperson Natasa Vuckovic and Committee members Dragan Sormaz and Vera Paunovic with the Chairman of the Committee on European Integration and Regional Cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Branislav Borenovic, the officials exchanged the experiences two committees garnered in their day-to-day work, opining that regional cooperation is an important prerequisite for the further integration of Western Balkan countries into the European Union. Natasa Vuckovic informed the guest on the preparation of the resolution to define the National Assembly’s future role in the talks with the European Union. She also added that, in addition to its intensive legislative activity, the National Assembly is dedicated to the further development of international cooperation with the national parliaments of European Union member states.
The officials agreed that cooperation relating to the use of EU pre-accession funds and monitoring of the implementation of laws should be improved, as should the exchange of experiences on the rapprochement of regulations with European legislation.

The Chairman of the Committee on Administrative, Budgetary, Mandate and Immunity Issues, Zoran Babic, met with the Chairperson of the Administrative Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Spomenka Stevanovic.
In the course of the meeting the two committee chairpersons presented the work, scope and duties of the Committee and Commission and exchanged views and experiences relating to the work of the two assemblies’ working bodies.
The Chairperson of the Administrative Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska was especially interested in the legislation regulating the rights and duties of MPs. She wished Serbia success in its ongoing reform stressing that Serbia being a strong country is extremely important for the Republic of Srpska.
In addition to the Committee Chairman, the meeting was attended by Momo Colakovic, member of the Committee on Administrative, Budgetary, Mandate and Immunity Issues.

Security Services Control Committee Chairperson Jadranka Joksimovic and Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Deputy Chairman Miroslav Petkovic met with the Chairman of the Security Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Dr Nenad Stevandic.
The officials agreed that the meeting is a continuation of the existing cooperation of parliamentary committees in charge of defence and security of the Republic of Serbia and Republic of Srpska which should contribute to the further development of regional cooperation in the sphere.
In the course of the meeting, the chairpersons of the parliamentary committees exchanged opinions and experiences relating to parliamentary control and supervision in the sphere of defence and security and agreed on future cooperation modalities. They mainly focused on the fight against crime and corruption as a big security challenge in the region and stressed the need for joint action and common mechanisms which should improve the safety of the entire region.
Security Services Control Committee members Meho Omerovic and Miroljub Stojcic and Defence and Internal Affairs Committee member Milovan Drecun also took part in the meeting.

In meeting with the Chairperson of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy, Dr Aleksandra Tomic and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending Radojko Obradovic, Finance and Budget Committee Chairman Uros Gostic and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on the Economy Radovan Viskovic underlined the importance of intensifying cooperation between two parliaments’ committees in charge of finance and economy in view of the fact that the Republic of Srpska and Serbia are important foreign trade partners. In the course of the meeting the officials discussed the duties and scope of the two parliaments’ committees with a special focus on their control function.
The meeting was also attended by Slobodan Jeremic, Dr Milorad Mijatovic, Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic, members of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, and Zoran Andjelkovic, member of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy.

In the course of their meeting, the Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Information Gordana Dukic and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society Milan Knezevic emphasised the importance of intensifying cooperation between the two parliamentary committees. On the occasion, the Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Information Gordana Dukic suggested that the Republic of Srpska philharmonic could organise a performance at the National Assembly House to mark the Day of the Republic of Srpska. It was also suggested to organise a roundtable in spring in Banja Luka to commemorate World War One.
Committee members Dr Neven Cveticanin and Jovana Mehandzic Djurdjic also took part in the meeting.
