Pritchard and National Assembly Delegation Conclude Serbia – UK Bilateral Cooperation Should be Advanced

The members of the National Assembly standing delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly met today with OSCE PA Special Representative on South East Europe Mark Pritchard.

The meeting mainly focused on the parliamentary control over the executive. Head of the delegation Stefana Miladinovic said that the National Assembly plays a prominent role in monitoring the executive through the 20 assembly committees comprised of members of all the parliamentary political parties, both the ruling majority and the opposition, as well as minority parties. She said that the parliament monitors the work of the executive through the ministries’ quarterly reports.

Speaking of Euro-integration, Pritchard said that Serbia has the UK’s full support and the fact that it is leaving the Union opens up possibilities for new types of cooperation with Serbia. Delegation members Dusica Stojkovic, Vesna Markovic, Milan Lapcevic and Milomir Vujanovic spoke, among other things, about the important role the National Convention on the EU, which has through its cooperation with the OSCE included more than 600 civil society organizations in the process, plays in the preparation of the negotiating chapters. They also spoke about the Berlin Process and the position of national minorities in the countries in the region. The officials agreed that improving bilateral cooperation is very important, especially in view of the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries. They agreed that the National Assembly has a strong partnership with the OSCE which supports a series of activities and projects within the parliament, as well as in the region.
