Parliamentary Group for Open Parliament Speaks with Young People from Four Student Organisations

In the context of the event “Week of Parliamentarism”, the members of the Parliamentary Group for Open Parliament met with young people from four student organisations.

The Chair of the Parliamentary Group for Open Parliament Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic said that the event aims to establishing direct cooperation with the citizens and make the parliament’s work fully transparent, so he asked the young people to take active part in the democratic processes. He emphasised the importance of including young people in the decision-making processes because it is a good way for them to, together with their elected representatives, create a good environment for education, employment and building a career in Serbia.

The representatives of the Group for Analysis and Policy-Making Boban Stojanovic, Faculty of Political Sciences European Students’ Forum Nikola Lazic, Serbian Youth Umbrella Organisation Djordje Jovicevic and Open Parliament School alumnus Jelena Anasanovic shared their views on the political system and inclusion of the youth in the political processes with the members of the Parliamentary Group, and offered some solutions which the participants of the meeting then proceeded to discuss. The idea to set up a Youth Parliamentary Network and Youth Committee emerged as the focus of the debate. The participants also spoke about the importance of political dialogue and boosting the numbers of young people among the MPs.

Discussing the proposed suggestions with the representatives of the youth organisations, the MPs asked them take active part in politics first and foremost through political parties, to take the initiative and thus help create their future. They agreed that the MPs and students should meet more often in order to better exchange ideas and improve cooperation.

The meeting was attended by MPs Aida Corovic, Milan Petric, Aleksandar Senic, Mira Petrovic, Vojislav Vujic, Annamaria Vicsek, Gordana Comic, Zoran Zivkovic and Ljiljana Kosoric.
