PFG with Poland Meets with Polish Sejm Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation

The Head and members of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Poland met with the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, headed by Committee Chairman Radosław Fogiel.

Welcoming the guests, Head of the PFG with Poland Ana Miljanic pointed out that the relations between the two countries are at an exceptional level, which, she emphasised, is evidenced by the series of visits at the highest state levels in the past period. She also emphasised the importance of interparliamentary cooperation, adding that the members of the PFG with Poland are extremely motivated to give their full contribution to it. The PFG Head pointed out that it is necessary to work continuously on improving cooperation in the fields of culture, education and sports, as fields that connect the two nations in a special way.

As one of the most important topics for the Republic of Serbia, Miljanic drew attention to the issue of the status of the territory and people of Kosovo-Metohija, stressing that all the incidents currently happening were initiated by one side and reminding the attending that Serbia has fulfilled all of its obligations from the signed agreements and arrangements. She said that dialogue and preservation of peace and stability in the region is a priority for our country, expressing hope that the current situation in the southern Serbian province would be resolved. In the context of fostering peace and cooperation, she singled out the Open Balkans initiative as a unique example of opportunities for successful economic cooperation and achieving common goals.

Miljanic took the opportunity to express gratitude to Poland for its friendly support to Serbia on the path to full membership in the European Union, informing the delegation about the opening of new clusters.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Radosław Fogiel expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and, on behalf of the delegation, his deepest condolences on the tragedies that happened in Serbia at the beginning of May.

He agreed that interparliamentary cooperation plays a significant role in the relations between the two countries, expressing satisfaction with the number of members of the PFG with Poland and stressing that a Polish-Serbian Friendship Group was formed in the Polish Sejm, headed by the Sejm Deputy Speaker. Fogiel opined that the opening of the Polish Cultural Centre in Serbia would further connect the two nations in the field of culture, adding that it is important to make efforts to promote economic and business cooperation, singling out the Open Balkans initiative as a unique opportunity to prompt Polish companies to invest in Serbia.

Speaking about Serbia's European path, Fogiel said that Poland is available to share its experience, good practice examples and a friendly desire to help, as someone with an experience of a very long EU accession process.

Speaking of the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, he expressed hope that a solution satisfactory for both parties would be found, stressing that Serbia's will to reach a solution through dialogue and fulfilling of its signed obligations is very much visible.

The meeting was attended and PFG members Sandra Jokovic, Haji Milorad Stosic, Milan Radin, Natasa Ivanovic and Goran Milic.
