PFG with Poland Meets with Polish Sejm Delegation

In the House of the National Assembly, a meeting of the president and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Poland was held with a delegation of representatives of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Poland Ana Miljanic opined that the relations between Serbia and Poland are at a high level and that there is room to strengthen economic cooperation. She praised Poland’s past and future investments in the economy of the Republic of Serbia, pointing out that Serbia is a favourable economic environment for foreign investors.

Ana Miljanic stressed that Kosovo-Metohija is the most important national issue for Serbia and that Belgrade remains committed to dialogue with Pristina, which is the only way to reach a mutually acceptable solution. She particularly emphasised that the starting point for a long-term solution for Serbia cannot be the recognition of the independence of so-called Kosovo.

Miljanic informed the delegation of the Polish Sejm about Pristina's frequent provocations aimed at destabilisation and provoking new crises in Kosovo-Metohija and reiterated that Belgrade insists on and perseveres in preserving peace and stability.

She stressed that EU membership is Serbia's strategic commitment, that Serbia is implementing numerous reforms and in that context thanked Poland for the support it provides to Serbia in the field of European integration. She also added that Poland's experiences as regards European integration are invaluable for Serbia, especially when using EU pre-accession funds.

Miljanic said that the National Assembly’s PFG with Poland has 26 members, which is a clear indicator of the MPs’ desire to work on improving relations with Poland.

The Chair of the EU Affairs Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Kacper Plazynski and the members of the delegation first expressed, on behalf of themselves and the people of Poland, their sincere condolences on the two great tragedies that happened in Serbia at the beginning of May.

In the conversation that followed, Kacper Plazynski stressed that Serbia is an important partner for his country in the Balkans. He announced the establishment of a Polish cultural centre in our country in view of the ample room for economic and business cooperation, as well as cooperation in other areas. He underlined that Poland will continue to support Serbia’s European integration process, emphasising his country's support for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina which should lead to acceptable solutions.

He was especially grateful for the treatment the Polish national minority enjoys in Serbia, pointing out that the Serbian leadership provides enough resources to nurture the tradition and culture of the Polish people.

The officials jointly assessed that there is potential for the development of cooperation in areas such as culture, education, science, innovation and others. They agreed that mutual visits of parliamentarians can contribute to an even more intensive parliamentary cooperation, through the exchange of experiences and ideas between the representatives of the two parliaments.

The meeting was attended by PFG members Sandra Jokovic, Natasa Ivanovic, Stasa Stojanovic, Goran Milic and Milan Radin, as well as Polish Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Rafal Pavel Perl.
