PFG with Japan Meets with Japanese Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Japan Dunja Simonovic Bratic and the PFG members met today, at the National Assembly, with Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Akira Imamura.

Dunja Simonovic Bratic informed the Japanese Ambassador about the current work of the National Assembly, stating that at the session that concluded the previous day, among other things, the MPs adopted amendments to the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll and elected the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media. She stressed that this was important from the aspect of Serbia's European integration, expressing hope that Cluster 3 would be opened by the end of December this year. Simonovic Bratic also thanked Japan for its continued support for Serbia's European integration.

Ambassador Imamura emphasised Japan's readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Serbia, as a key country for the stability of the Western Balkans, confirming Japan's support for Serbia's European path.

He briefed his hosts on Japan's security challenges and foreign policy in the current geopolitical environment. He particularly focused on the recent visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his meeting with then Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, as well as Emperor Naruhito.

He pointed out that the signing of a bilateral investment agreement between the governments of Serbia and Japan is expected in December, and assessed that this would be a good signal for new investments by Japanese companies in Serbia.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Prim. Dr Nada Macura, Ivana Stamatovic, Darko Jovanovic and Aleksandar Djukic, who exchanged opinions and experiences with Ambassador Imamura on topics related to the organisation of healthcare systems in the two countries, environmental protection and the green economy.

The officials also spoke about the position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, agreeing that, after the local elections and the victory of the Serbian List, it is necessary to set up the Community of Serb Municipalities.
