PFG with Israel Meets with Ashdod Deputy Mayor

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Israel MA Milovan Drecun and PFG members Andrijana Avramov and Natasa Tasic Knezevic, met today in the National Assembly with the Deputy Mayor of the Israeli city of Ashdod Eli Nacht to discuss the importance of continuing the existing good bilateral cooperation.

Drecun emphasised the traditional friendship between the Serbian and Jewish people grounded in the terrible sufferings they experienced throughout history, pointing out that this friendship has survived many challenges. He pointed out that Serbia sympathises with the losses suffered by the Jewish people in the terrorist attack by Hamas on 7 October. "Israel has every right to ensure security for its citizens," said Drecun, expressing hope that the military operation carried out by the Israeli Defence Forces will end soon with as few casualties as possible, concluding that peace is vital for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Eli Nacht pointed out that Israel is doing everything to defend its citizens, stressing that it is a reaction to terrorist attacks. He went on to say that this is not only a fight against terrorism, but also a fight to free the Palestinian people from the terror of the regime in which they live.

Milovan Drecun and PFG members Andrijana Avramov and Natasa Tasic Knezevic, informed the guest about the difficult situation faced by the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, stressing that it would be of great importance that Israel does not support any activities of so-called of Kosovo at the international level - in international institutions, expressing concern about its attempts to become a member of the UN and NATO.

The officials agreed that it is important to continue the cooperation and fostering of ties between the two states and two peoples, indicating that there is ample room to further increase the exchange of goods, as well as strengthen economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation.

The Head of the PFG with Israel said that this is one of the largest friendship groups in the National Assembly, one that has established a serious platform for strengthening cooperation between the two countries and two parliaments, as well as for encouraging cooperation between local communities in Serbia and Israel.
