PFG with Germany Meets with German Bundestag Representatives
The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany, Doc.Dr.Sci.med. Marija Zdravkovic and PFG members of the Dunja Simonovic Bratic and Milan Radin, met today, in the National Assembly House, with the representatives of the German Bundestag currently in official visit to Serbia.
At the very beginning of the meeting, Zdravkovic highlighted the good interparliamentary relations and contacts with Bundestag colleagues, adding that Serbia is a country of great potential, which is not giving up on its European path. She pointed to the fact that throughout history Serbia and Germany have gone through mutual trials, but that the two countries should focus on common goals that will lead to a better life and a common European future. She expressed the hope that interparliamentary cooperation will intensify further so that the two countries can understand each other better and deepen cooperation.
The head of the German delegation, Thomas Hacker, agreed with the Head of the PFG that interparliamentary relations are intensive and emphasised the importance of common goals and mutual understanding. He used the opportunity to point out the importance of the rule of law and the continuation of shaping democracy throughout Europe and expressed satisfaction with the activities of the working group for the implementation of the ODIHR recommendations, composed of members of the ruling majority, opposition and representatives of civil society. He also expressed his deepest condolences on the accident in Novi Sad.
Zdravkovic thanked the guest for the condolences, saying that the institutions reacted immediately to examine all the facts. She said that the party she belongs to, the leading one in Serbia according to the citizens’ vote, the president of our country Aleksandar Vucic, and she personally stand for the rule of law and oppose any type of aggression. She thanked the guests for their visit and constructive approach at the meeting, adding that Serbia has a clear vision of progress and is committed to preserving peace and stability, both in the region and in Europe. She pointed out the importance of Germany for Serbia as a stable economic partner, and that it is up to parliamentarians to strengthen overall bilateral relations.
At the end of the meeting, Dunja Simonovic Bratic and Milan Radin said that they value the cooperation with Germany and that this country represents one of Serbia's strongest economic partners. They concluded that even deeper relations can be built, if there is a will for it on both sides, and invited their colleagues to visit Serbia and see for themselves its potential and beauty.
The officials concluded that Serbia-Germany parliamentary relations should represent an example of good parliamentary cooperation and bring general peace, peace in Europe and the unification of peoples, and that the preservation of peace and security are the common goals we strive for.
