Judges, public prosecutors, and assistant public prosecutors elected by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia at its Fourth, Eighth and Ninth Sittings of the Second Regular Session in 2005 today took the oath of office before the Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic.
Addressing the newly elected judges, public prosecutors, and assistant public prosecutors, Mr Markovic said that we all cared about having a safe country, a responsible judiciary, and an efficient public prosecutor’s service. ‘You are not expected only to dispense justice, but also to be just, which means you have to show solidarity. You, as a prominent part of society, are so exposed that other people’s inefficiency and incompetence are ascribed to you. Be tolerant of government bodies, since sometimes even they are not responsible enough; also show understanding for members of the public, who cannot find their way around laws and transition. Your work will not be valued enough, but the results of your work shall be shown in the future’, Mr Markovic said.
The newly elected judicial officials were addressed by the Presiding Justice of the Supreme Court of Serbia, Vida Petrovic-Skero, the Republic Public Prosecutor, Slobodan Jankovic, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Branislav Bjelica.
A total of 40 judges, 72 presiding judges, nine public prosecutors, and 15 assistant public prosecutors were elected at the sittings. Twenty-seven judges, and 24 prosecutors and assistant prosecutors, took the oath of office at today’s ceremony. Under Article 47 of the Judges Act, judges take the oath of office before the Chairman of the National Assembly, while re-elected incumbent judges need not re-take the oath of office
